-
A student’s eligibility for a scholarship is based on the student’s intent to
seek a degree at the accredited independent institution of his or her choice, which
receives its fundamental support from sources other than taxes.
-
Students who plan to attend accredited independent colleges or universities
(not State funded colleges or universities) and who are bona fide residents of
Western Washington may apply for a scholarship.
-
It is anticipated that scholarships (other than renewals of previously awarded
scholarships) will be limited to entering freshmen, with combined math and
reading SAT scores (not including the score on the writing section) of
over 1200 (or equivalent ACT scores). The Trustees of the Foundation may also
consider the applicant's scores on the writing portion of the SAT.
-
Student must have submitted a Free Application For Student Aid form (FAFSA)to
the institution that he or she is planning to attend. For freshmen starting
college during the 2010-2011 academic year, scholarships will ordinarily be
$5,000 per year or less. Eligibility for and amount of a scholarship is based
upon demonstrated financial need as determined by each institution to which the
student has applied.
-
Students may reapply to the Foundation to renew their scholarships each year
they meet eligibility requirements for a total of up to four years.
-
The application blank is available only online;
following completion, the original application and the required additional
information must be sent to the Edmund F. Maxwell Foundation. Send a copy of
the first page of the application form together with a blank Financial Aid
Worksheet to the appropriate financial aid office of each institution for which
the applicant is seeking financial aid. Each institution must send the
completed Financial Aid Worksheet to The Edmund F. Maxwell Foundation together
with a copy of the first page of the application form. Financial Aid Worksheets
may be sent to multiple institutions.
-
Applications must be mailed by the student and the institution to the
Foundation no later than April 30, 2010. Students must also meet the differing
deadlines of each institution to which they apply.
-
Scholarship funds will be paid to the educational institution which the student
will be attending.
-
The recipient is expected to maintain academic and personal performance
consistent with the original award criteria.
-
The program is designed to assist outstanding students with a portion of their
cost of education. Other financial aid may be applied for and received.
-
The application requires the following additional information:
-
The applicant’s essay of not more than 500 words on one of the topics listed
under the heading “Personal Statement”.
-
An official, certified high school transcript.
-
Certification of SAT/ACT scores, if not included in high school transcript.
-
Financial Aid Worksheet (to be completed by each College or University).
